About Traffic Signs in General

Nearly every country in the world has traffic signs or road signs to communicate information to the individuals traveling on that road. Because the differences in language can create barriers, international signs using symbols instead of words were developed in Europe, then by many countries around the world. Annexe 1 of the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals of November 8, 1968 defines eight categories of signs:

1. Danger Warning signs: these would include Rail Road crossings, yield, animal
crossing, school, road hazards, ect.
2. Priority signs: Stop, Do not enter, wrong way, ect..
3. Prohibitory or Restriction signs: These signs would indicate speed limit, no
parking, no overtaking.
4. Mandatory signs
5. Special Regulation signs
6. Information, Facilities, or Service signs: petrol stations, restaurants,
7. Direction, Position, or Indication signs
8. Additional Panels

Every country and region, however categorizes its road signs differently, therefore, if you are planning to drive in a country you are visiting, it is advised to learn the traffic signs that are used in that particular country or region.
